The untold story of Leslie Easterbrook – this is her today

Leslie Easterbrook became widely recognized for her role as the fearless Sgt. Debbie Callahan in Police Academy, but her path to success was far from conventional. Born in Nebraska and adopted as an infant, she was raised in a musical family and initially dreamed of becoming an opera singer. Her breakthrough came in 1980 when she joined the cast of Laverne & Shirley, but it was her memorable performance in Police Academy that made her a household name.

To prepare for the role of Sgt. Callahan, Easterbrook trained in karate and martial arts while following a rigorous fitness routine. Despite portraying confident and intimidating characters on screen, she has said that her real personality is much gentler. Beyond Police Academy, she built an extensive acting career with appearances in popular television series such as Murder, She Wrote, Baywatch, and Matlock, later earning praise from horror fans through films including Rob Zombie’s The Devil’s Rejects.

Her talents extended well beyond acting. Easterbrook was also an accomplished singer and performed the U.S. national anthem at Super Bowl XVII in 1983 after overcoming a series of unexpected travel and scheduling setbacks. Following an on-set accident that affected her hearing, she developed a strong interest in firearm safety, trained extensively, and even went on to win a shooting competition.

Now in her 70s, Leslie Easterbrook continues to be admired for her lasting contributions to the entertainment industry. From comedy and horror to music and advocacy, her career reflects resilience, dedication, and a willingness to embrace new challenges. Her story demonstrates that a successful career is built not by a single iconic role, but by the ability to grow and evolve over time.
