Why you should consider

Raw garlic is often overlooked because of its strong taste and smell, yet it contains natural compounds that may support overall health. One of its most notable components is allicin, which is produced when garlic is crushed or chopped. Since allicin is sensitive to heat, eating garlic raw may help preserve more of this beneficial compound. Garlic also provides vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that contribute to normal immune system function.

Research suggests that garlic may offer benefits for cardiovascular health. Studies have linked it to modest reductions in blood pressure and cholesterol levels, especially when it is part of a balanced diet and healthy lifestyle. Garlic may also have a mild blood-thinning effect, which makes moderation important, particularly for individuals taking medications that affect blood clotting.

Scientists continue to investigate the long-term health effects of garlic and other allium vegetables. Some findings suggest they may be associated with a lower risk of certain chronic diseases, but the evidence is not yet conclusive. While garlic may help support the body’s natural defenses against common illnesses, it should not be considered a cure or guaranteed protection against infections.

Although raw garlic can be a healthy addition to many diets, it is not suitable for everyone. Some people may experience heartburn, stomach irritation, or other digestive discomfort after consuming it. Individuals who are preparing for surgery or taking blood-thinning medications should consult a healthcare professional before increasing their garlic intake. For most healthy adults, eating one or two cloves of raw garlic per day is generally considered a reasonable amount and can easily be incorporated into salads, spreads, or homemade dressings as part of a balanced diet.
