Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s daughter, Vivienne Jolie-Pitt, has reportedly filed a legal petition to remove her father’s surname shortly after turning 18. According to court documents, the request was made for personal reasons. If approved, her legal name will become Vivienne Marcheline Jolie. She had already begun using the name “Vivienne Jolie” in professional credits before filing the petition.
Vivienne is not the first of the former couple’s children to distance herself from the Pitt surname. Shiloh has legally changed her name to Shiloh Nouvel Jolie, while Maddox and Zahara have also been reported to use the Jolie surname in many settings. Knox has reportedly used the name “Knox Jolie” on his high school diploma, although no public records indicate that he has legally changed his name.
These developments come after years of widely reported family tensions. Angelina Jolie filed for divorce from Brad Pitt in 2016, and while the divorce was finalized in 2024, legal disputes involving some of their shared assets continued afterward. Neither Vivienne nor her siblings have publicly explained their reasons for changing or dropping their father’s surname, so much of the public discussion remains based on speculation rather than confirmed statements.
Vivienne’s decision also reflects a similar step taken by her mother years earlier. In 2002, Angelina legally removed her father Jon Voight’s surname and became professionally known as Angelina Jolie. According to reports, Vivienne’s court hearing is scheduled for November, when a judge is expected to decide whether to approve the requested name change.
