I found this in my grandmother’s old dresser.

For many people, making the bed is simply part of the morning routine. For others, it’s a chance to make the entire bedroom feel cleaner, more organized, and more inviting. Although the process seems straightforward, a few simple techniques can give your bed the polished appearance often associated with luxury hotels. By paying attention to how you layer sheets, arrange bedding, and add finishing touches, you can transform the look of your room in just a few extra minutes.

It all begins with the fitted sheet, which provides the foundation for the rest of the bedding. Pulling each corner tightly into place and smoothing out wrinkles creates a clean, even surface. One of the most effective styling tricks involves the top sheet. Instead of placing the finished or decorative side facing up, many home experts recommend laying it face down. After placing the comforter or duvet on top, fold the upper edge of the sheet back over the blanket. This reveals the finished side and creates the crisp, layered appearance commonly seen in upscale hotels.

To enhance the look even further, fold both the sheet and the comforter back together once more near the head of the bed. This small detail adds depth and gives the bedding a more refined appearance. Neatly arranging your pillows also makes a noticeable difference. Many people use sleeping pillows that match the sheets, then add decorative pillows or pillow shams that coordinate with the comforter or duvet. A soft throw blanket folded across the foot of the bed adds warmth, texture, and a welcoming finishing touch. These simple details can make an entire bedroom feel more relaxing and luxurious without requiring expensive bedding or major renovations. They are especially useful when preparing a guest room, helping visitors feel comfortable from the moment they arrive.

Not everyone, however, prefers the traditional layered style. In recent years, many people have embraced the “no top sheet” approach, using only a fitted sheet and a duvet or comforter. Supporters say it makes bed-making easier, reduces laundry, and creates a cleaner, more minimalist look. Whether you prefer the classic hotel-inspired style or a simpler setup, the best choice is the one that fits your personal preferences and keeps your bedroom comfortable. Ultimately, creating a beautiful bed is less about perfection than thoughtful presentation. A smooth fitted sheet, a neatly folded top sheet, carefully arranged pillows, and a few decorative accents can make your bedroom feel fresh and inviting every day, proving that even the smallest housekeeping habits can have a big impact.
